Our vision at Creative Roots is to develop skills for both children and adults through a hands-on approach. We aim to build meaningful relationships between art, sensory play, and the community by encouraging creativity and valuing all perspectives on art.

We offer a wide variety of art classes for children (ages 4 and up) and adults of all ages. Whether you're looking to explore a new craft, create with loved ones, or dive into a hands-on art experience, we have something for everyone!

Our art studio is located in Beech Island, SC. Currently, we are running covered outdoor classes for the Spring and will move into our four-seasons studio soon in 2025.

Workshops
Explore our workshop offerings below! Some classes are available year-round, while others are seasonal, giving you fresh creative experiences throughout the year.

We offer classes for children ages four to 18. Types of youth classes include painting, sensory play art, collage creations, paper mâché, origami, and open studio classes (free style).

Our adult classes for ages 18+ cover painting, crocheting, weaving, embroidery and scrapbooking. We also offer classes on how to create your own DIY journals / memory albums, bouquets (vases and flower arrangements), and jewelry using air-dry clay.

Our seasonal classes vary year-round. Some classes focus on holidays and major events such as our ornament creation classes for Christmas and mother-and-child painting classes for mother’s day. Each of these seasonal classes will be advertised here on our website, Facebook, and Instagram.

Meet the Facilitators
Lindsey Calhoun
As an artist and a teacher, I believe that art is a powerful tool for learning, self-expression, and connection. My teaching is rooted in Montessori principles and is all about encouraging creative problem-solving and the joy of making. I love when I teach a new skill and my students take it and totally make it their own.
My journey as an educator has taken me across the world. I taught in China with the Peace Corps, where I saw firsthand how art can bridge language and cultural barriers. In South Korea, I connected with my kindergarten students through creativity to help solidify the English they were learning. Later, I earned my Master’s in Montessori Education while teaching at a public Montessori school in Charleston. Now, I’m back home teaching art at Redcliffe Elementary, excited to share my passion for creativity with my community!
Brianna Hardaway
In 2022, I graduated from USC Aiken with a bachelor's in psychology. I quickly began work as an Early Intervention Specialist (EI), which meant I was helping very young kids learn how to communicate, develop their motor skills, catch them up on developmental milestones, and so much more! I was surprised and fell in love with how much children can learn just through playing and being themselves. Now, at Creative Roots Art Studio, I hope to continue to inspire parents, children, and all who come to take classes at our studio.
Hannah Zagade
I graduated from the University of South Carolina Aiken with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a concentration in English. I began my career by teaching English and then transitioned to ESOL. I have taught in the Multilingual Learner Program for the past three years. I am looking forward to my new position as an art instructor, to fuse my passion for teaching with my love for the arts. I have always yearned to have the ability to teach in a relaxed, encouraging learning environment where all students and their abilities are celebrated. I am thrilled to be a part of this new teaching opportunity to meet more amazing students who enjoy learning through art and expressing their creativity through fun hands-on lessons.
